Ely High School History Film Project

2024 marked the Centennial Anniversary of Ely Memorial High School. Much as was the case in 1924, Ely Memorial High School continues to serve as the cornerstone for community life.

To help in understanding the impact of the High School on the heritage of Ely, the City's Heritage Preservation Commission(HPC) brought together thirteen graduates who told their stories in a video/oral histories project. The personal stories are powerful as each graduate shares their deep appreciation for Ely Memorial High School. Funding for this project came from a Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund Grant.

The premier of the group documentary was held at the Ely Historic State Theater in a program hosted by the Ely-Winton Historical Society(EWHS). The presentation by the EWHS traced the origin of local schools dating back to the late 19th century.
